My teaching methods are aimed at helping students develop the sociological tools to look at the world with fresh eyes, see things from a different perspective, and interrogate taken for granted aspects of life. This builds not only critical thinking and the ability to form a cohesive argument, but also shapes how they interact with other people and navigate their own lives outside of the classroom.
I primarily utilize discussion-based learning with the understanding that one of the best ways to grasp a concept is to talk about it.
My aim is always to create a classroom where students feel respected and valued. I strive to learn each student’s name and something about them as an individual, and work to make them feel that they are an important member of the class where their voice, participation, and learning are central.
I consider sociology classes as a space in which to teach not only sociological concepts and skills, but also life lessons. It is important to me that students are able to apply what they learn in my classes to their lives.

“I feel like I learned a lot and more than just in normal school sense. I feel like the things I learned I will take with me, and made me think differently about the world around me.”
